The impact of artificial intelligence in academia
In this lecture, we'll explore both the opportunities and significant challenges AI introduces into academic settings. We'll discuss how AI tools, such as ChatGPT and other generative models, can transform research practices, classroom teaching, and student learning experiences.
Flooded in data: measuring sea ice with satellites using machine learning
How can artificial intelligence help us understand the Arctic? In this talk, we’ll explore how machine learning is used to analyze satellite data from sea ice, helping us measure sea ice thickness even during summer. This approach provides valuable insights into the changing polar environment.
The Role of Science and Technology in Deep-Sea Mining Research
The increased global demand for critical minerals has renewed interest in deep-sea mining. But what do we know about the deep-sea ecosystem? Could deep-sea mining have significant impacts for the marine environment? Find out when we take a brief dive into the basics of deep-sea mining, its potential impacts, and the technology used to study one of the largest marine ecosystems on our planet.
